Our President General David Sympson arrived at the Denver International airport on Monday afternoon November 8th and was met by John Luedecke and Robert Gordon. Vice President General Dr. Dan Heller had arrived in Denver earlier. Dinner was at the Buckhorn Exchange in Denver. The next morning Tom and Jewel Wellborn and John and JoAnne Luedecke took our visitors to the Railroad Museum in Golden. They had a very interesting two hour tour of the museum and store. Then Lunch was held at the Mt.Vernon Country Club. Charlotte Hubbs, Regent of the Colorado Society DAR and her husband were there. New member Duane Henry Duff, Jr. was sworn in by the President General, who also presented the blue and buff SAR pin to very old time member and Mt Evans Chapter President Bob Morgan, who after all these years had never received his pin. President General David Sympson described the great progress being made in Louisville, Kentucky by the SAR. Bob Gordon asked about the British Frigate that was found in Lake Ontario recently, that was sunk during the Revolution. Could it be brought up to the surface and made a part of the SAR museum? No. We were also glad to see member Jim Bane and his wife Cloyce, who has been very ill.
After the luncheon, the Wellborns took the presidential party to the American Mountaineering Museum which was of particular interest to both Dr. Dan Heller and to David Sympson. Then they stopped for some pizza before attending the DAR meeting of the Piney Creek Chapter in Centennial. While there, Tom Wellborn gave a speech on the American Revolutionary War hero Nathan Hale. The DAR ladies were very impressed. That was the end of the day, and the President General David Sympson and Vice President General Dr. Dan Heller left the next morning for New Mexico.
