WELCOME to the Colorado Society of the Son of the American Revolution (COSSAR) website!

THE COLORADO SOCIETY was admitted into the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution on 1 July 1896, so we celebrated our centennial in 1996.  Since 1896 the Colorado Society membership has grown from the 16 Charter Members, with chapters being activated and later closing.  At one time in the early 1920's COSSAR had seven chapters and about 350 members.  At the close of 2008 the Colorado Society had 263 members state wide.

The Chapters work closely with their respective communities to keep alive the Patriotic ideals for which our ancestors fought and died in the American Revolution.  Some of the ways the SAR does this is by awarding Certificates and Medals for Displaying the American Flag, Good Citizenship, Scouting and Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC).

Annually COSSAR recognizes an outstanding Eagle Scout and a recent state winner also placed 2nd in the National Eagle Scout Competition. He was awarded a $4,000 scholarship for his efforts. Membership efforts also emphasize Family Memberships, in particular the younger applicants under the age of 18 with our Youth Registrant Program.  Our youth are the future of the Sons of the American Revolution.

COSSAR also maintains close relationships with the Colorado State Society of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Colorado State Society of the National Society of the Children of the American Revolution (N.S.C.A.R.). Our Liaison Committee Chairman, Brent Pick, is our main contact with both of these closely allied heritage organizations.
